Staying at Canopy by Hilton London City, which is located on Minories, right between the City of London and East London, the hotel combines contemporary design, comfortable rooms, impressive city views and a location that makes it incredibly easy to explore the capital. For me, it was the perfect combination of a stylish place to stay and a base from which to experience London.
From the moment I entered Canopy by Hilton London City, the atmosphere feels contemporary but not overly formal. The design takes inspiration from the local area and East London's history, incorporating local artwork and references to the neighborhood’s heritage. The result is a hotel that feels distinctly connected to London rather than simply being another international luxury property. The hotel has 340 rooms across 12 floors, with modern amenities designed around both comfort and functionality.
My room in short: modern, comfortable and calm enough to feel like a retreat after a long day of exploring. The interiors have a clean contemporary aesthetic, with a comfortable bed, workspace and everything needed for a city stay. One of the details I particularly enjoyed was the view. London is a city that is made for looking at from above, and having the skyline as part of the experience makes a hotel stay feel much more special. Whether one is getting ready in the morning or winding down in the evening, the urban landscape outside becomes part of the room itself.
One of the biggest advantages of Canopy London City is its location. The hotel is situated directly opposite Aldgate Tube Station, making it particularly convenient for getting around London. Liverpool Street and Tower Hill are just one stop away, while some of the city's most recognizable landmarks are within walking distance. This location also puts one between several very different sides of London.
Breakfast is an important part of any city hotel experience for me, especially when I have a full day of exploring ahead. At Canopy by Hilton London City, the breakfast selection offers plenty of variety, including options for vegetarian and vegan guests. This is something I always appreciate when travelling because it means one won't have to compromise on a good breakfast simply because of following a plant-based diet. There are also gluten-free options, making the breakfast offering suitable for a range of dietary preferences.
On the 11th floor of the hotel, Florattica Rooftop offers one of the most memorable experiences at Canopy London City. The rooftop combines panoramic views across London's skyline with an interior inspired by East London's textile heritage. One of its most striking details is the floral ceiling installation, inspired by silk-woven floral patterns created by French Huguenots in 17th-century London. The atmosphere is elegant and contemporary without feeling overly formal. Exactly the kind of place where one can come for a drink and easily stay for the entire evening.
The menu focuses on seasonal cocktails and sharing plates, making it ideal for an aperitif, an evening with friends or a date night with a view. Even if one is not drinking alcohol, there are plenty of ways to enjoy the atmosphere and the view. The wider hotel dining offering includes coffee, soft drinks and a selection of food, making Canopy a comfortable choice for guests who prefer to keep things alcohol-free. For me, the combination of the floral design, skyline views and relaxed atmosphere is what makes Florattica stand out. London feels completely different from above, especially around sunset, when the city slowly changes from a busy daytime metropolis into a sea of lights.
What I particularly like about Canopy by Hilton London City is its interpretation of luxury. It isn't traditional, formal hotel luxury. Instead, it feels modern, design-conscious and connected to the city around it. There is a strong focus on comfort, but also on creating spaces where one actually want to spend time. The hotel has the amenities one would expect from a contemporary city stay, including complimentary Wi-Fi, a fitness center, room service, concierge services and digital key access. At the same time, the artwork, rooftop and neighborhood-inspired design give it more personality than a purely functional business hotel.
For a London trip, location can make all the difference. I want somewhere that feels special when I return after a long day, but I also want to be able to leave the hotel and immediately experience the city. Canopy by Hilton London City manages to combine both.
